The wheels on the bus go round and round at the library

October 8, 2014

Lawrence Transit System teamed up with the Lawrence Public Library to provide a special “Books and Bus” storytime in October. The collaboration between the library and the transit system featured stories, crafts, and a real trip on the bus. Almost 200 people participated in the events held on two days.

Linda Clay, beloved storytime librarian, read books with a bus and transportation theme. Then children and their families boarded a Lawrence Transit bus for a short trip around downtown. After arriving back at the library, kids created a bus-themed craft project.

“Combining children’s interest in buses along with reading provides a good opportunity for working together,” said Robert Nugent, transit administrator. “Many of the kids had their first bus trip with us, and we hope it was a great experience for them.”

Tammy Beck and her daughter, Raine, enjoyed the event.

“As a homeschool parent, I am always looking for opportunities to teach,” said Beck. “The partnership between the Lawrence Public Library and Lawrence Transit was a wonderful way to teach Raine about helping the environment as well as working together in a community. The fact that Raine had a wonderful time is just an added plus!”
