Travel Training

What is Travel Training?

Travel Training is a free personalized service provided to anyone interested in learning how to use the fixed-route bus system and other transit options in the area. This program is customized to meet your individual needs and goals. You will gain the necessary skills to travel independently through hands-on experience. The Travel Trainer will spend as much time as needed with you to ensure you are comfortable traveling on your own.

What does the program offer?

The program is extremely flexible and can be tailored to your specific needs. We offer one-on-one or group training, as well as train the trainer sessions so you can bring this information back to your organization. Below are several topics the training could include:

  • Reading a bus schedule
  • Using smartphone apps for real time information and step-by-step trip planning
  • Bus behavior
  • Transferring between buses
  • Paying the fare and buying bus passes
  • Using bikes, grocery carts, and strollers
  • Safety skills
  • Getting on and off the bus
  • Boarding using a mobility device
  • Pedestrian skills
  • Getting to and from bus stops
