This prestigious award has gone to Lawrence Transit four years in a row

Lawrence Transit and the University of Kansas received the award for the highest ridership in the state of Kansas from the Federal Transit Administration. The award was presented at the Kansas Public Transit Association Annual Meeting and Expo in Salina, Kansas earlier this month.

From 2016-2017, ridership increased by 78,516 riders, which is the highest increase of any urban transit provider in the state of Kansas. This includes ridership numbers from both the City of Lawrence and the University of Kansas.

This is the fourth year in a row that this award has been given to Lawrence’s coordinated transit system. Lawrence Transit System has had tremendous success in recent years by providing excellent bus service to the residents of Lawrence.

“Increases in ridership year after year is the result of hard work, innovative ideas, top-notch customer service, and coordination between partners” said Bob Nugent, transit administrator. “We also have some very loyal bus riders and terrific bus drivers who make Lawrence Transit successful.”

Lawrence Transit continues to look for continuous improvements to service, and in the past few years has initiated services such as real-time mobile tools, K-12 bus passes and night service. Routes are also refined each year to ensure that bus riders are best served.
