Input needed to determine the final planned route changes for Lawrence Transit Route Redesign!

We’re almost there! Join us for the final round of public input into our comprehensive route redesign process. Comments received will be incorporated into final planned routes, which will occur in two phases: Phase 1 in August 2022 and Phase 2 in January 2023.

Routes 30, 34, 36, 38, and 42 along with coordinated Routes 11 & 29, will change in August 2022 to meet the needs of students for a full academic year. Route 41 will be merged with Route 42, and Routes 43 and 44 will have no changes.

Routes 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, and 27 will change in January 2023, along with additional adjustments to Routes 11 & 29, the addition of Route 100, and the addition of Sunday microtransit service. Lawrence Transit is also pursuing a 1-year pilot of fare free transit in 2023.

There are several ways to get involved and share feedback about the route redesign final scenario.

  1. View final route redesign scenario at
    https://lawrencetransit.org/route-redesign-final-scenario/.
  2. Give your input on these route changes by taking a survey at https://lawrenceks.org/listens/surveys/.
  3. Attend one of the public input sessions listed below, or email questions or feedback to info@lawrencetransit.org.

Big ideas in final proposed scenario:

  • Sunday service introduced in January 2023 using microtransit on demand service.
  • New coordinated Route 100 provides year-round, frequent service between transit facility, KU, and Downtown.
  • Realigned Route 27 provides year-round, more convenient access for Haskell and an interline with Route 10 provides a 1-seat ride from Haskell to Rock Chalk Park.
  • Routes 1 & 7 changes connect grocery stores directly to multifamily housing.
  • Realigned Route 4 connects North Lawrence with major grocery stores along the 6th corridor.
  • Routes 3 & 6 interline provides improved 2-way service for north-central industrial employment area.
  • Routes 6 & 11 transfer opportunity at transit facility simplifies north-south travel along Iowa St. corridor.
  • Routes 7 & 9 interline preserves 1-seat ride between Holcom Park, Billy Mills Middle School, and Lawrence High School.
  • Realigned Route 29 provides year-round service to KU’s West Campus.

The redesign of transit routes in Lawrence is happening concurrently with the planning and construction of a new multimodal transfer facility on the southeast corner of Bob Billings and Crestline, as well as an improved transfer location serving Downtown Lawrence.
