Facemasks now optional on Lawrence Transit, based on federal judge’s ruling

Following the 4/18 court ruling, effective immediately, masks on the Lawrence Transit system are now optional for riders and employees. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.

This change comes as a result of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) suspending enforcement while the Biden Administration reviews a federal judge’s ruling.

“Our mask mandate enforcement is based on federal guidance,” said Adam Weigel, Transit and Parking Manager. “We encourage everyone to monitor public health information and make decisions aligned with their needs.”

CDC continues to recommend that people wear masks in indoor public transportation settings at this time. Please refer to LDC Public Health for the most up to date, local public health information.
