Lawrence Transit announces an exciting partnership with Peaslee Tech for fifteen handmade bus shelters. These shelters were built through programming with the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence and will be installed across the community. This is Lawrence Transit’s second partnership with Peaslee Tech for custom bus shelters.

“Working with community partners like Peaslee Tech and the Boys & Girls Club to make creative and functional spaces is an exciting part of Lawrence Transit’s work and our commitment to a great rider experience,” said Felice Lavergne, Transit Planner II.

Partnerships

Laci Maltbie, CEO Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence, said this opportunity helped expose teens to new, hands-on skills like woodworking and carpentry. From becoming OSHA certified to completing five bus shelters, teens demonstrated dedication, teamwork, and a willingness to give back to the community.

“Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence was thrilled to partner with Peaslee Tech on such an exciting project,” said Maltbie. “This project is a perfect example of how we help build Great Futures through real-world experiences alongside our community partners.”

Kevin Kelley, CEO Peaslee Tech, agreed that building bus shelters is a tangible accomplishment that will be a source of pride for these students for years to come.

“Peaslee Tech’s ongoing partnership with Douglas County communities and area organizations like the Boys & Girls Club provides young people opportunities for exposure to careers in skilled trades, while emphasizing the importance of community involvement,” said Kelley.
