Electric Bus to be featured at EV Showcase Event

September 23, 2021

On Saturday September 25, Lawrence Transit will have on display a 40-foot zero-emission battery electric Gillig bus at the Lawrence Electric Vehicle (EV) Showcase. This event is part of National Drive Electric Week, and organized by the Sustainability Action Network, a local not-for-profit.

In 2022, Lawrence Transit will receive five zero-emission battery electric buses similar to the bus that will be on display for public viewing at the showcase event.  These electric buses are the result of a grant awarded to Lawrence Transit in 2020 by the FTA and will replace older diesel-fueled buses that have exceeded their useful life.  Electric charging stations that will power the buses are also part of the grant. An additional grant for two electric buses and charging stations was also awarded to Lawrence Transit this year. Those electric buses and charging stations will go into service in 2023.

The EV Showcase will take place at South Park in Lawrence on Saturday, September 25.  The bus and other electric powered vehicles will be on display in the parking lot on the east side of the park. Lawrence Transit staff will be present and available to answer questions . The event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
