Two riders win monthly bus passes

April 20, 2015

For a regular bus rider, winning a monthly bus pass can be a pretty big deal. That was the case for two women who registered to win a free bus pass at the city’s Earth Day celebration. Jan Pool and Kristen Bittinger both won a May 2015 bus pass. The pass offers them unlimited rides on any bus in Lawrence during the month of May.

Jan gave the bus pass to her daughter who regularly rides the bus to her two jobs. She likes the bus a lot and says that it gets her to all of the places she needs to go.

Kristen rides the bus to get to her job at Best Buy. She rides the bus very frequently. She was very surprised and happy, since she said she never wins anything!

The Earth Day event was held on April 11 at South Park. Many people attended the event to learn about ways to help the planet by reducing their carbon footprint.

Riding the bus reduces carbon emissions and helps the environment by reducing the amount of cars on the road. Also, many of Lawrence Transit’s fleet of buses are low-emission and clean burning, including hybrid buses that operate using both electric and clean burning diesel fuel. These buses reduce carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions by up to 90 percent.
