Where's My Bus?
What is it?
Transit riders in Lawrence can now send a text message to find out when their bus will arrive.
All city and university buses have been equipped with GPS tracking units, which transmit the location of all vehicles at any point in time. With this technology in place, passengers now have the ability to know when their bus is coming.
Each bus stop is assigned a bus stop number. When a text message with the bus stop number is sent, the system then predicts when the next bus will arrive at the selected stop.
Bus riders should still get to the bus stop a few minutes early since many factors can affect the arrival time. When using this new texting feature, message and data rates may apply.
How does it work?
Step 1: Find your stop number located on the bus stop sign. Or look it up in the document below.
Step 2: Send a text to (785) 312-2414. Enter the bus stop number as the text message. If there is more than one route that serves the bus stop, put a comma after the bus stop number and enter the route number. (This is optional. If you do not specify a route, you will receive times for all routes serving that stop.)
Example: text message 173,11 (bus stop 173, route 11).
Step 3: Press send and you will receive the next arrival times for your bus.
